The Dead Daisies, Beasto Blanco, and Mike Tramp kicked off their European Tour November 1st in Enschede, Netherlands; touring on “A night of Rock” through November 17th. The stars aligned perfectly so I could attend the Hamburg, Germany show on Sunday, November 3rd.
White Lion’s Mike Tramp opened the show. It was just Tramp and his right hand man Marcus Nand, both on guitar. Tramp’s talent, charm, personality, and charisma is undeniable. It’s heartwarming to see him giving it 110% with songs we all know and love like “Broken Heart,” “Tell Me,” “When the Children Cry,” “Little Fighter,” and “Wait.” Tramp told us that he’s played Grunspan more than anywhere else in the world since 1984! Being a lifelong Tramp/Lion fan, it’s always a treat to see him perform live; especially at this frequented venue.
I am only newly familiar with Beasto Blanco’s music. Although, I have known of Chuck Garric for many years since The Barons, and that Alice Cooper‘s daughter, Calico Cooper, was in the band. I’ve even met them a handful of times at NAMM. However, I did not realize just how good they were until I saw them at The Roxy in Los Angeles, opening for Lord of the Lost on 9/27/24. At least I am making up for lost time by seeing them twice in two months! I also keep hitting repeat on the Kinetica CD, and now have a couple of their other CDs on the way!
Garric and Cooper took turns on vocals… They played all original songs, except to give tribute to Cooper’s dad with “Feed My Frankenstein.” Calico used various props, including a severed arm, and simulated red flames moving in the “wind.” Several of the fans we spoke with were super stoked to see Beasto Blanco for the first time, including Arved Wehling from Danger Dolls and a man from Minneapolis who moved to Hamburg 11 years ago for his German bride. Whether you’re familiar or not, Beasto Blanco is definitely a band that can win over a crowd! Stand out sing-a-long song was “Honey” with the line “Honey let me hear you say yeah, yeah, yeah!”
Unfortunately, Doug Aldrich was unable to participate on The Dead Daisies’ European tour due to health issues / throat cancer. He gave his blessing for Reb Beach (Winger/Whitesnake) fill in. *We are sending good healing vibes your way Doug!
Current band members include John Corabi, Doug Aldrich, Tommy Clufetos, David Lowy, and Michael Devin. Usually, all-star lineups like this are cover bands, so it’s refreshing that The Dead Daisies have released seven original albums since 2013. Although I was unfamiliar, their songs were catchy and fun; some with sing along choruses. “I Wanna Be Your Itch” reminded me of Faster Pussycat meets Iggy Pop.
They played several songs from their latest 2024 release ‘Light ‘em Up.’ Before “Make Some Noise” Corabi asked the audience who rides motorcycles. I was so caught up in The Dead Daisies, that it was halfway through the set before I REALLY recognized Corabi’s voice and had flashbacks to The Scream and the ‘94 self-titled Mötley Crüe album. It’s hard to believe that was 30+ years ago!
"A Night of Rock” was a remarkable blend of nostalgia, talent, and fresh energy. Each band brought their unique flair, making it an unforgettable evening for rock enthusiasts!
