Learn more about avid horror fan and Disco Bloodbath Creator Mark Chavez
Mark Chavez is a child of the 80’s who grew up on films such as Friday the 13th and Halloween. In 1993, Mark Chavez moved from Houston, TX to Los Angeles and has been attending horror conventions ever since, including Fangoria Weekend of Horrors, Comic-Con, Days of the Dead, Monsterpalooza, and more.
Although the experiences were always incredible, and Mark appreciated meeting the actors and getting their autographs, he felt something was missing…. He felt that a more personal touch and creative approach would really add to the signings. He was bored of repeatedly having the same memorabilia that everyone else had, and decided it was time to take matters into his own hands and start doing something about it.
About three years ago he began creating his own original art to have signed at the events. These pieces are for the true fans, created by a true fan. The one-of-a-kind pieces received an overwhelmingly positive response, so Mark decided to take it a step further and started selling them to like-minded horror fans so they could have the same experience and opportunity to own something unique and fabulous.
In early 2016, Mark decided to take it to the next level and form his own official company, Disco Bloodbath, which is a Los Angeles-based company that specializes in 3D art pieces, primarily of the Horror/Cult/SciFi genres.
Some of the titles that have given Mark inspiration include: Carrie, Night of the Living Dead, Hell Night, Close Encounters of the First Kind, Nurse Ender, Friday the 13th, Christine, and Creepshow. He has also been inspired to create a few non-horror designs including Pretty In Pink and Motley Crue.
Disco Bloodbath has showcased Mark’s art at two conventions to date (Days of the Dead April 1st to 3rd, 2016 and Monsterpalooza April 22nd to 24th, 2016) and has received an amazing response, from both attendees and cast/crew members of the films that Mark has immortalized.
Mark said that Linda Blair was the first major actress to sign one of his pieces, and he idolizes her! The first thing she said when she saw his art piece was “Wow, I’ve seen a lot of cool stuff, but this is amazing!” PJ Soles said the same thing, “Wow, you should consider selling these. They are so cool!”
Another standout moment for Mark was when Felissa Rose (Sleepaway Camp) grabbed his art piece from the movie and ran to others at Monsterpalooza, showing them his art piece and yelling “Look at this! It is amazing. Can you believe it!”
Please take a look around and check out some of the pieces available from Mark Chavez. He has put these boxes together by hand and no two are alike. He does not mass-produce and uses as many recyclables as possible (such as used VHS cover art, Laserdisc cover art, CDs, card art from action figures, toys, broken mirrors, glass, etc.)
Disco Bloodbath offers art pieces in a variety of sizes, ranging from 9×9 to 11×18. We also have limited edition boxes that are signed by members of the cast or crew. Commissioned pieces are also available, and we can create designs from genres other than horror. Please use the Contact button if you are interested in making a purchase, ordering a commissioned piece, or if you have any questions.
If you are in the Los Angeles area, Disco Bloodbath will have a booth set up at Midsummer Scream at the Long Beach Convention Center on July 30th and 31st.
